SOORDAS

Shyam Shah as Lord Krishna in "Soordas"

“Soordas” is a film about the great devotee of  Lord Krishna,  the presiding poet among the historical Asht Chhap Poets (eight devout poets at the temple of Lords Shrinathji about 500 yrs.ago) of Pushtimargiya(the path of grace ) Vaishnava sect. Born  blind Soordasji did not have a  happy childhood. Because of  his physical disability he was not loved by either  his father or mother- the Pauper parents of  founder sons, three healthy and one born blind.

At the age of six he left his house, but because of his virtues soon after he was accepted as a divine saint by people of a nearby village. But  after staying there for  several years as their guru, Soor Swami (As he was known then) feels that he himself is not complete without a spiritual guru. So he leaves the place and settles down on the bank of river Yamuna. After few years Maha Prabhu Shri Vallabhacharyaji(Mahaprabhuji- the founder of Pushtu Margiya  Vaishnava Sect) visits the place and they meet eventually. Soor  swami surrenders himself unto the lotus feet of maha Prabhu Shri Vallabhacharyaji. After that Soordasji has great devotional poetries to the world.

The character of Soordasji is beautifaully played by Devkumar Shah. Shyam Shah is also seen in a  guest appearance as Lord Krishna. The Haveli Sangeet and Bhajans sung by famous singer Jagjit Singh  are also much appreciated  as the script  and dialogues  by Shyam Shah.
