The Asphalt Jungle:

         

     

 

 

 

Made by M.G.M. in 1950, the film was Directed by John Huston. 

            It was about a well planned and meticulously executed jewel robbery. The whole thing was presented in a very cool manner. Sterling Hayden and Jean Hager played the lead roles. Marilyn Monroe also marks the film with the short but a very catchy appearance.   

   

The River:        

     

 

         Made by United Artists in 1950, “The River” was based on the novel by the English writer Rumer Godden.               

   

 

        The film showed the creative sensibility of the French Director Jean Renoir, shot on the backdoor of banks of the river Gonges, West Bengal – India, the film depicts the daily life of an Anglo – Indian family. 

       Director Jean Renoir has successfully been able to capture subtleties of characters, their relationships, atmosphere and moods.

     

   

Singin’ in the Rain:         

     

  

          M.G.M. Production, year 1951, Directed by Kelly and Donen.     

 

 

 

     The film was a musical presentation of back stage Hollywood theme – a silent movie actor becoming talking picture star. The film starred Kelly, Jean Hagen, Debbie Reynolds, Donald O’Connor and  Cyd Charisle.      

   

The African Queen:                                                       

 

   

         Made in 1951 by United Artists, based on the novel by C. S. Foster

         The film was directed by John Huston. Script was written by John Huston and James Agee. Humphrey Bogart and Katharine Hepburn played the lead roles. They both performed extremely well. Katharine Hepburn was nominated for an Oscar and Humphrey Bogart was awarded one. The film also has catchy special effects.
