All the King’s Men:
         

     

         Made in 1949 for Columbia, adopted from the Pulitzer Prize winning novel by Robert Penn Warren based on the true story of Louisiana Governor and Senator Hue Long, the film was scripted and Directed by Robert Rossen. Instead of Casting an established Hollywood star in the main lead, the director decided upon a ‘Character actor’ Broderick Crawford to play the lead role of Willie Stark.           
            The film was a big success. It won the ‘New York Critics Award’ and the ‘Academy Award’ for the best film of the year. Broderick Crawford also won an Oscar for his performance in the film.
   

Adam’s Rib:         
     

          

         Directed by George Cukor and Scripted by the writer couple Garson Kanin & Ruth Gordon the film was made in 1949 for M.G.M.  The film was about two lawyers, husband & wife, on opposing sides of a divorce case. Hepburn and Tracy played the lead roles with Judy Holiday playing the wife on trial for shooting her husband.                       

   

 

         The comedy depicted different aspects about male-female equality and the double-standards of the society. It was perhaps the first film about ‘woman’s lib’.         

   

All About Eve:         

     

 

          Made by Twentieth Century – Fox in 1950. Film was Written – Directed & Produced by Joseph Mankiewicz. 

          It was a tale of an aging actress Margo Channing(Played by Better Davis, whose strengths and weaknesses, neuroses and anxieties, came to the surface at a very critical stage & her life. The film narrates the story of the theatre folks in a very satiric manner.     

        Bette Davis played the character of Margo very effectively. Joseph Mankiewicz received Oscars for both, Writing & Direction.

               

   

Broken Arrow:                                                                                                
 

 

      Made by Twentieth Century – Fox, the film was Directed by Delmer Daves based on the novel “Blood Brother” – by Elliott Arnold, “Broken Arrow” tells the story of an army scout (Played by James Stewart), who tries to negotiate peace treaty with the Apache leader Cochise (Played by Jeff Chandler).

      The film takes a romantic drive when the Scout falls in love with an Indian (Apache) beauty, Played by Debra Paget. In the course of romance and passion for peace the scout loses the faith of his own people.

       The Whites think that he is in league with the Apaches. But the scout sticks to his efforts for treaty. Ultimately he obtains the peace between the TVs warring sides but pays heavily with the life of his beloved, who dies in an ambush.
